Plot
L'appel du vide, the call of emptiness, is the term for an irrational, sudden impulse to do something self-destructive - such as throwing oneself into an abyss.
She must have felt the call of emptiness as she stumbled towards the cliff. A chance encounter with a stranger not only saved her from death but also allowed her to overcome her hidden fears.
The woman is an elegant woman with a tendency towards extravagance, a fondness for antiques and classic cars, but she is despairing of her life partner. The man is a misanthrope, a libertine, a nihilist who has consciously chosen the life of a social outcast.
They constantly hurt each other, provoke each other, and tease each other. In doing so, they mask the problems, the tragic injuries that drove them to this precipice.
But then the storm breaks, and the inner forests are stripped of their withered leaves. There they stand now in their bare, cold autumn, drawing a little closer together. Perhaps a chance for a new beginning?
