ACTION
"Takeoff!" is a play for children that deals with profound themes such as aging, farewells, death, and growing up. At its heart are three very different characters: the old man Lukas, the young, high-spirited jackdaw Toby, and the pragmatic hen Auguste.
The story takes place in the house of old man Lukas. Lukas lovingly, but increasingly exasperatedly, cares for Toby the jackdaw, whom he once rescued as a weak fledgling.
Toby is bursting with energy, loves cake, steals shiny objects from the village (like the doctor's pen), and steadfastly refuses to eat worms like a normal jackdaw or join other jackdaws. Lukas, on the other hand, is at the end of his strength, old, and sick. Sensing that he doesn't have long to live, he desperately tries to prepare Toby for a life without him. With the help of Auguste the hen, who is dramatically struggling in the background to lay one last, crooked egg, they finally persuade Toby to join a flock of migrating jackdaws heading south.
The play culminates in an emotional farewell when Toby flies out of the window to join his fellow creatures.
REVIEWS
“Odlot” is full of warmth and humor. Difficult topics are handled carefully and intelligently, without pandering to the young audience at the Gliwice City Theatre.
What a good, clever play. Without grand pronouncements, without pandering to a young audience, without unnecessary philosophy, simple and intelligent, sensitive, but also humorous and finesse. About age, youth, death, friendship, growing up. About difficult and important topics. I'm just surprised that the play is rated for ages 7 and up.
In my opinion, even a five-year-old will understand it and it will be a wonderful experience for him.
And adults won't be bored either – I assure you.
“Odlot” at the city theater in Gliwice is great.

A clever, witty story about very important topics, an excellent contribution to conversations that touch on the most difficult issues that children sometimes bring to adults.
It's full of positive energy, entertaining, moving, and thought-provoking. It would be wonderful if there were more productions like this for a young audience!
